Event Details
Green Up Newburgh! 2026 will bring together local environmental organizations, youth programs, and residents to highlight the incredible work happening across our city. From urban forestry, community gardens, and composting to walking trails, pollinator pathways, park revitalization, and healthy outdoor activity, this event celebrates the collective efforts making Newburgh healthier and greener.
Attendees will receive a Green Up Newburgh! Stamp Card, encouraging them to visit each table and engage directly with participating organizations. Once completed, stamp cards can be entered into a raffle for a great prize sponsored by the Newburgh Waterways Center.
So, join us for a great afternoon with food, music, to fun games to celebrate a greener Newburgh and to take meaningful actions like:
Creating a seed bomb or pollinator-friendly craft
Planting, weeding or mulching at the Calvary Presbyterian Church
Discovery urban biodiversity and helping with a BioBlitz
Adding food scraps to a composting bin
Kids’ eco-art station (recycled materials)
Writing a physical letter or postcard to a local representative
Calling or emailing a local representative in real time
Youth program enrollment
Signing up for an upcoming volunteer opportunity
Story-sharing (“Why are trees and parks important to you?"
Pledging a sustainability action (at home, school, or work)

Come join your neighbors in cleaning up Downing Park. Gloves and tools provided. A great chance to meet some new people while cleaning up Historic Downing Park. All ages welcome!
Bi Weekly Community Cleanups at the Park
Come join community members in helping clean up Downing Park, Bi-weekly Thursday evenings from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tools and gloves provided. Every other Thursday: May 7 and 21, June 4 and 8th, July 2, 16, 30th, August 13, and 27th, September 10 and 24, October 8 and 22nd, November 5 and 19th.

This hands-on workshop is designed for all ages and experience levels. Together, we will co-create a work of art that will be a combined result of each person’s participation. The painting will be a record of the community that came together to make it. Come ready to collaborate, experiment, and embrace the joy of creating art in community.
All materials for this workshop are provided. Wear clothes that can get paint on them.

Geodesic Dome Installation with Parents in the Avant Garde
Musical Discovery Workshop(around the dome) on Sunday, June 1 at 4-6 pm.
This weekend-long installation will feature a mobile geodesic dome and artistic actions led by Parents in the Avant Garde.
Parents in the Avant Garde, organized by Nicole Lattuca and Matt Mottel, will present Scribble Scores, an interactive performance. The event begins with a workshop where children create colorful scribble scores on Bristol paper, which will then be interpreted live, starting at 5 PM, by parents, neighbors, and the young artists themselves in an improvisational sound performance using the artist-built geodesic dome as the display for the graphic musical scores.

Shade Sail Installation
Friday, May 23-Monday, May 26: Shade Sail Installation/Amery Kessler. This temporary sculptural installation in historic Downing Park will bring surprise and wonder as it reveals all of the reflections and shadows of the park differently.
